If you’re planning a fishing trip in San José del Cabo or anywhere in Los Cabos, you’ll likely face one big question:
Should I book a panga or a yacht?
Both have advantages depending on your budget, expectations, and fishing goals. Here’s what you need to know to make the right call.
What is a Panga?
A panga is a lightweight, open-style fiberglass boat often used for inshore or light offshore fishing. It’s affordable, fast, and gets you close to the action.
Pros:
- Much more affordable than yachts
- Closer to the water (great for roosterfish)
- Quick and easy access to shorelines
- Ideal for solo anglers, couples, or small families
- Available with shade and basic amenities (26ft pangas with restroom)
Cons:
- Less space and comfort
- No enclosed cabin or luxury features
- Not ideal for long offshore trips
What is a Fishing Yacht?
A fishing yacht is a larger vessel, often 32–40+ feet, with advanced equipment, more comfort, and the ability to go farther offshore in search of big game.
Pros:
- Air-conditioned cabins, restrooms, and seating
- Can target marlin, tuna, wahoo 20+ miles offshore
- More space for groups or luxury experience
- Smooth ride even in rougher water
Cons:
- Higher price per trip
- Slower to maneuver in tight inshore spots
- Less “raw” fishing feel
