The warm waters off San José del Cabo are starting to light up with early summer action. Here’s the latest on what’s biting this week:
Striped Marlin Still Active
Striped marlin remain the main attraction offshore. Most boats targeting them are finding action about 15 to 25 miles out, especially near the Gordo Banks and Destiladeras. Fish in the 100–150 lb range are being landed on live bait (caballito) and trolled lures.
Wahoo Sightings Increasing
Although still sporadic, wahoo are beginning to show up, particularly around structure and drop-offs closer to shore. The best chances come early in the morning using high-speed trolling with jet heads or Rapalas. Several boats reported hookups this week, with fish ranging from 30 to 50 lbs.
Mahi Mahi on the Move
There are early signs of dorado moving into the area. Most are small to medium-sized (10–20 lbs), but their presence is a welcome sign as we head toward peak season. These fish are being found under floating debris and bird activity, often near where marlin are also feeding.
Weather & Conditions
Sea temperatures are hovering between 75–78°F, with mostly calm mornings and light afternoon breezes. Ideal for both inshore and offshore trips, especially for families or anglers looking for smoother rides.
