Fishing Report
The roosterfish bite is on fire this week in San José del Cabo, especially near the shoreline between Palmilla and Playa Hotelera. We’re finding quality gallos in the 20 to 30-pound range, just a few casts from the beach. These powerful fish are chasing both live bait and topwater lures, giving anglers explosive action.
We’ve been using live caballito and mullet as primary bait, and they’ve been producing consistently. For those who love surface strikes, poppers are working extremely well, especially early in the morning and right before noon. The key has been staying mobile and targeting the structure close to shore – rocky points and current lines are holding fish.
Water clarity remains excellent with slight green-blue hues, making it easy to spot feeding activity near the surf. Most catches are happening in 3 to 10 feet of water, so lighter gear and accurate casts are making a big difference.
Captain’s Tip:
Try casting a white-and-blue popper tight to the rocks during first light. Let it sit for 2 seconds before a fast retrieve. Most strikes have come just seconds after splashdown!
