Date: April 29, 2025
Location: El Imán & La Fortuna – San José del Cabo
Fishing has been solid this week out of San José del Cabo, with excellent variety for both offshore and bottom fishing enthusiasts. Here’s the breakdown:
Striped Marlin
Striped marlin activity continues to be consistent about 10–15 miles out, with most catches coming on live bait and rigged ballyhoo. Average size has been between 80 to 120 lbs, and most hookups are happening near El Imán. Morning departures have the best chance, especially between 7:00 to 10:00 AM.
Sierra Mackerel (Sierra Makarel)
Sierra action remains strong along the inshore drop-offs, especially around La Fortuna. Anglers trolling small Rapalas or casting chrome jigs have been rewarded with fast action. Best results come early, with fish averaging 3–6 lbs—perfect for ceviche!
Bottom Fishing – Cabrilla & Amberjack
The bottom bite is heating up! Fishing around rocky structures at El Imán and La Fortuna with jigs (200–250g) and live bait has produced some impressive amberjack up to 40 lbs, along with healthy numbers of cabrilla. Early tide changes have been key, and the action picks up right after sunrise.
