Best Time to Catch Roosterfish in Cabo A Monthly Guide and Proven Techniques
If you are planning a trip to Cabo to target roosterfish, timing matters. The warmer months of summer into early fall are the strongest, when baitfish push tight to the beach and roosterfish follow them close to shore. This guide shows when they are most active, where to look, and what techniques work best.
The best time to catch roosterfish in Cabo is during the warmer months, roughly June through November, when baitfish push tight to the beach and roosterfish hunt close to shore. Your odds jump on days with clean water, stable weather, and visible bait along beaches and rocky points. Roosterfish are an inshore sport fish that anglers almost always release.

Roosterfish by Season in Cabo
A Practical When to Go Map
Conditions vary year to year, but this seasonal pattern stays consistent. Use it as your practical guide for planning the trip around the bite.
Slow troll live bait and run short casting sessions when activity pops.
Mix live bait close to shore with casting lures or flies when fish show.
Cast first to surface signs, and keep live bait ready as backup.
Follow bait pockets from beach to point to current edge with fast moves.
When Is the Absolute Best Time?
Aim for Warm Water and Bait
If you can choose your dates, target the warm-water months and the days when conditions line up. These are the windows when roosterfish are most reliable close to shore.
Warm water pulls bait tight to the beach and roosterfish hunt the shoreline. The strongest stretch of the year when the weather stays stable.
Often outstanding. Clean water and steady bait can produce long feeding windows along beaches and rocky points.
Beyond the calendar, the best days bring clean water, stable weather, and visible bait. When those line up, your odds jump.
Best Techniques for Roosterfish
- Live bait close to shore. Slow troll along beach edges and points when fish are not showing on top.
- Casting to surface signs. When you see bait sprays, boils, or working birds, cast first and follow with live bait.
- Fly and light tackle. Best when the water is clean and fish are cruising the beach line.
- Local positioning. The right angle matters. Private charters adjust zones fast, moving from beach to point to bait pocket.
Why Timing Matters for Roosterfish
Roosterfish follow food. When bait moves, roosterfish move, which is why the same beach can be quiet one day and full of action the next. The biggest difference is usually not luck. It comes down to water clarity, bait presence, and local decisions.

Posted on Tripadvisor Matt HVerified Get your fish on! My friend took me on a fishing tour with Daliken and captain Poncho. It was fantastic...the highlight of my visit to Cabo. The two of us filled the boat with tuna. We were so busy pulling fish I thought my hands were going to break off at the wrists! I had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Jaime, who was super cool. My buddy has been using Jaime's boats for the last 9 years (and he promised a company shirt with the 10th year)! Tons of humpback whales abound to boot. I hadn't been fishing in years but look forward to another voyage next time in San Jose del Cabo. Thanks to all at Daliken for a great day!Posted on Tripadvisor Bo from SeattleVerified One of the best saltwater/offshore fishing Charters in Los Cabos Daliken is my go to Saltwater/offshore charter fishing outfit in Los Cabos. I have fished with them for years. All of their Captains have a ton of experience being from the area. The waters near San Jose del Cabo are loaded with many pelagic species and Daliken will give you the best chance at getting a prize fish. What you will fish for depends on the time of year, my most recent trip the Tuna were biting and we were steady bit from sunrise until after lunch. Great company, great captains, fish with confidence when you chose DalikenPosted on Tripadvisor johnny mVerified Lovely experience! Had a great time out on the water! Caught a variety of fish with our guides help! Two huge tuna were by far the finest catch of the day!Posted on Tripadvisor red rVerified 1st class and a great vslue A great trip with captain and his son as mate. Glassy smooth sea, trolled for Wahoo, chunked for tuna but there were none around. 1st class boat with all safety gear, 1st class equipment. If you want, your catch can be cleaned at the port and you can take some - or all of it - home or to your hotel or a restaurant for cooking.Posted on Tripadvisor Micheal sVerified Perfect fishing Perfect experience. Ruben didnt speak a lot of English but he was very nice and we caught a lot of fish for a small period of time. Prices was also great and you get all the fish cleaned and fillet.Posted on Tripadvisor Jorge AVerified We’ll Be Talking About This Forever! I honestly don’t even know where to start. We went out today on the 28ft boat with Captain Pancho, and from the moment we left the marina, you could tell he really knows the ocean. We came out hoping for a good day… but we ended up fighting a 300-pound tuna — something I’ll remember for the rest of my life. This wasn’t luck. Pancho knew exactly where to move, how to follow the birds, how to work the currents. When that fish hit, it was game on. The fight lasted almost two hours. The captain and deckhand guided us through every step, stayed calm the whole time, and kept us going when our arms were done. When we finally brought that tuna on board, everyone at the dock stopped to look. It didn’t feel real.If you’re looking for real fishing, not just a boat ride… this is it. Professional crew, great attitude, solid gear, and a captain who truly knows what he’s doing.Thank you Pancho and thank you Daliken. We’ll be back for sure.Posted on Tripadvisor Bradley SVerified Great Day! Fantastic day. Weather messed us up on the originally planned day but Jamie figured it out. Went out the following day and hooked plenty of 🐟 for the freezer. We come to Cabo frequently and will always fish with this team!Posted on Tripadvisor Tracy MVerified Another Unforgettable Trip with Daliken Sportfishing! We had another amazing fishing experience with Daliken Sportfishing — they are our go-to every time we visit San José del Cabo, and they never disappoint. In September, we went out on two trips: one targeting tuna, and the other going after mahi and marlin. Both days were an absolute blast! The first trip was all about the tuna — fast-paced, non-stop action! The second trip was even more memorable. We went out on a smaller boat with Captain Pancho, and it turned out to be the most unforgettable fishing trip of our lives. We landed a HUGE blue marlin, followed by a striped marlin. Truly incredible.Captain Pancho and his son (who is also a captain) were the perfect team — calm, composed, and total pros. Their professionalism made the whole experience even more special.I can't say enough great things about the entire Daliken team — from the owners and managers to the captains and crew. They go above and beyond every single time. Can’t wait to fish with them again!Posted on Tripadvisor Juan Pablo Barragán SánchezVerified Amazing Experience with Daliken Sportfishing in San José del Cabo We went out with Captain Ulices, and from the very beginning, his knowledge and dedication were clear. He took us straight to the right spots, and we had an excellent day of fishing. The crew was very friendly and professional, making the whole trip enjoyable. One of the best parts was that when we returned to the marina, they vacuum-packed all of our fish—super clean, fresh, and ready to take home. It made the whole experience complete: unforgettable fishing and the peace of mind of keeping our catch in the best condition.I highly recommend Daliken Sportfishing if you’re looking for a safe, professional, and authentic fishing trip in Los Cabos. We will definitely be back!

Our cap was ModestoPosted on Google noah poresTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Crew was nice. Rough day at sea. Went with kids who couldn’t manage the 6-7ft seas, so we didn’t get all the way out there for dorado and Marlin. We then fished towards the shore for roosters but not a bite. Went by pretty sluggishly. The 43ft yacht for 6hrs only comes with 2 bags of chips, water, a few sodas and a 12-pack of beer. Per our conversation, they would have breakfast and lunch on the boat, but the morning of they said only snacks. So we bought burritos at the marina for breakfast. For $2200, I’d expect a little more luxury to the luxury yacht.Posted on Google Rod LaaksoTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Our first trip and it exceeded expectations! Great sea boat Captain - Pancho. Only 30 minutes out and limited out on Dorado so I got my 10 weight fly rod out and did some catch and release sight fishing. That really was a dream come true. So, we decided to go for Marlin. My wife and I hooked up on Marlin at the same time! It was unbelievable. Thanks for the experience!Posted on Google Jack GioffreTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Best fishing trip ever. Everything is priced fairly and they take care of you. Marcos and Cesar took us out and worked their tails off. We caught 7 Mahi and a marlin. They are quick and put us on fish almost immediately.Posted on Google paintball salazarTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Posted on Google connor jacksonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had a GREAT fishing trip with Daliken. It was my first time fishing in Cabo, I will be back and will be booking with these guys again. Our guide Cesar was great and put us on a big Dorado and a Marlin. We took some fish to eat tonight and gave some to our guide and those who cleaned & fileted. Daliken vacuum sealed, froze, and dropped off the rest at our hotel the morning of our flight home.Posted on Google Lindy RTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Do NOT book the YKNOT boat with this company. It only has one motor and the bathroom is not working. It's completely trashed and in horrible condition. Booked a four hour trip and basically they held us out there for over 6 almost 7 hours when we had other trips planned. The boat can go max probably 10 mi an hour. The boat needs to be taken out of commission.Posted on Google Luke NashTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My friend and I had an absolute blast fishing with Hollywood. He continuously helped find fish and made sure that we both caught something. After the trip, he brought us to a restaurant that cooked our fresh fish and my friend and I loved it. We would definitely recommend Hollywood as a guide and will continue to fish with him when we come back to Cabo.Posted on Google Robyn EricksonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The captain and mate were great! They put us on the fish. One downside was the minor language barrier. Another downside was the lack of a fighting belt which would have been nice while fighting a tuna. However, Philippe was great! He was able to get our fish processed and vacuum sealed and he personally delivered it to our hotel. That’s some great customer service right there!Posted on Google Minghsun LiuTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I did surf fishing with Guillermo. He is a great teacher and just a nice person to hangout on the beach for a few hours. He also prepared a fantastic ceviche with the Sierra mackerel that he caught the day before.Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust.
