⚓ Quick Answer

What is a Catch & Cook trip in Cabo?

A Catch & Cook trip is a 5–6 hour private fishing charter where you catch your dinner — literally. We fish early, keep your catch iced, fillet it at the dock, and recommend trusted local restaurants in San José del Cabo that will cook your fish Mexican-style the same day: grilled, ceviche, tacos, sashimi, garlic butter, or Veracruzana. Best table fare includes dorado (mahi mahi), yellowfin tuna, snapper, and wahoo. Trip from $335 USD.

Your Ocean-to-Plate Day — Hour by Hour

Here's exactly how a Catch & Cook day unfolds — from sunrise on the water to dinner at sunset:

🐟 → 🍽️ A Day in the Life of Your Catch

5:50 AM Arrive at Puerto Los Cabos Marina

We handle your fishing license and live bait. Meet your captain. Load gear. Coffee optional (but encouraged).

6:10 AM Departure

Leave the marina and head toward today's best bite zone — typically offshore for dorado, tuna, wahoo; inshore for snapper.

7:00 AM – 11:00 AM Prime fishing window

Trolling spreads, live bait, jigging — whatever the captain calls. Catches go on ice immediately to lock in freshness.

12:00 PM Back at the dock — filleting

Crew cleans and fillets your catch for free. Your fish goes straight into a cooler ready for transport.

1:00 PM Restaurant call

We text the restaurant: "Party of 4 · dorado 3 lbs · arriving 6 PM · ceviche + grilled." They start preparing.

2:00 PM – 6:00 PM Back at the hotel

Shower, nap, pool, tan — whatever your vacation style is. Your fish is chilling on ice, restaurant is ready.

7:00 PM Dinner is served

The fish you caught 12 hours ago is on your plate — grilled, ceviche, tacos, or sashimi. Margarita in hand. Life is good.

Catch & Cook FAQ

Which species are best for Catch & Cook?

Dorado (mahi mahi), yellowfin tuna, snapper, and wahoo are excellent table fare and our most recommended catches. Triggerfish and sierra are also great options for smaller-group meals. We'll guide you based on season and conditions.

How does the restaurant part actually work?

After your trip, we fillet your fish at the dock and call a partner restaurant to let them know what you caught and when you'll arrive. You carry (or we deliver) your fillets to the restaurant. They charge a cooking fee ($10–20 USD per person), and you order sides, drinks, and dessert normally. Most places need a couple hours notice.

Do the restaurants keep leftover fish?

No — any fish you don't eat, they'll pack up for you. We recommend booking our vacuum-pack & freeze service ($2 USD/lb) for leftovers so you can take them home.

Can I just keep the fish for the hotel or rental?

Absolutely — many guests skip the restaurant and cook at their Airbnb or rental with a kitchen. We fillet at the dock and vacuum-pack/freeze whatever you need. Some resorts also offer chef-to-room catering with your catch.

Do I need to bring anything for the fish?

No. We provide ice on the boat. After the dock, you can carry fish in a small cooler we lend you, or we deliver it to the restaurant for you.

Can you vacuum-pack and deliver to my hotel?

Yes — vacuum-pack & freeze is $2 USD per pound with hotel delivery (timing permitting). Perfect if you want to take fish home on your flight the next day.

Are licenses and bait included in the Catch & Cook price?

No. Licenses are ~$20 USD per person, live bait is $30–40 total per trip, and the restaurant cooking fee is paid separately at the venue. These are all standard Cabo add-ons.

Which restaurant do you recommend?

Depends on your vibe. Flora Farms or Acre for upscale/romantic. Jazmín's for authentic Mexican charm. Marina restaurants for convenient, no-fuss. We help match based on your preferences — just tell us your style when you book.

How many people does the catch feed?

Depends on the fish size. A single dorado (15–25 lbs) can feed 6–8 people. A 30 lb tuna feeds 10+. For 4 people you usually want at least 8–10 lbs of fillets — easily achievable on a morning trip.

What if we don't catch anything to cook?

Rare, but possible. If the fishing day is slow, the restaurant can still cook fish they have in-house, or you can grab dinner anywhere. Your boat fee stays the same — the Catch & Cook is the added experience, not the guarantee.

Is the cooking fee the same at every restaurant?

No — it varies from $10 USD pp (casual spots, marina restaurants) to $20 USD pp (upscale venues like Flora Farms or Acre). Let us know your budget and we'll recommend accordingly.
