Fishing FAQ – What First-Time Visitors Ask Before

Fishing FAQ – What First-Time Visitors Ask Before Booking in Cabo

New to fishing in Los Cabos? You’re not alone. Whether it’s your first time on a boat or just your first time in Mexico, these are the most common questions we receive — answered clearly by local experts.

Family fishing in Cabo

Do I need a fishing license in Los Cabos?

Yes — all anglers in Mexico must carry a valid fishing license, including kids. If you don’t have one, we can arrange it for you the morning of the trip.

🎯 What happens if we don’t catch anything?

Fishing is never guaranteed — it’s called “fishing,” not “catching.” But our experienced captains do everything possible to put you on the fish. We use GPS, sonar, bait, and real-time knowledge of what’s working.

🍻 Can I bring beer or snacks on the boat?

Absolutely. Feel free to bring drinks, snacks, or lunch. Just please avoid glass containers. We provide water and ice.

👨‍👩‍👧 Is it safe to bring kids on a panga?

Yes! Our pangas are safe, clean, and captained by locals with years of experience. We recommend trips of 4–6 hours max for families, and we always provide life jackets.

🌊 Will I get seasick? What should I do?

If you’re prone to motion sickness, we recommend taking a non-drowsy tablet 1 hour before departure. Avoid heavy meals, stay hydrated, and focus on the horizon if needed.

🐟 Can I keep the fish I catch?

Yes! Most species can be kept within legal limits. We clean and bag your catch, and some local restaurants will cook it for you. Catch and release is also supported.

🕕 What time do we leave and where do we meet?

We meet at Puerto Los Cabos Marina at 6:10 AM. Your confirmation includes a map and exact location. Our team will greet you with your boat assignment.

💰 Cheap vs Expensive Fishing Trips

A cheaper trip might get you on the water — but expect older equipment, shorter hours, and less personalized service. More expensive charters offer comfort, experienced crew, electronics, and better chances at offshore species.

🚤 Panga vs Sportfisher – What’s the Difference?

Pangas are open-air boats, great for inshore trips and smaller groups. Sportfishers (like 33ft–38ft) are larger, with shade, bathroom, and better range for offshore fishing. The choice depends on comfort level and target species.

🌴 Inshore vs Offshore Fishing

Inshore fishing stays close to shore targeting roosterfish, snapper, and jack. Offshore trips go further out, chasing tuna, marlin, and dorado. Inshore is best for families and shorter trips; offshore is better for big game seekers.
