Fishing Report: Tuna Still Hot, Big Dorado, Wahoo Spots, Striped Marlin Starting
Offshore on the La Fortuna side, the tuna bite continues. We are also seeing quality dorado (mahi-mahi) including fish in the ~25–30 lb class, occasional wahoo, and striped marlin are beginning to show as the season turns.
What’s Biting Right Now
- Yellowfin tuna: steady action when we locate bird schools and current edges. Sardines/strips of squid are producing, and live bait can be the difference when fish get picky.
- Dorado (mahi-mahi): good quality fish around floating structure and temperature breaks.
- Wahoo: still possible — not every day, but we keep gear ready and run the right lanes.
- Striped marlin: beginning to appear more consistently as the season settles in.
Recent Dorado (Mahi-Mahi) Catches
Big, healthy fish — great eating and perfect for taking home in the right amount.
Recent Yellowfin Tuna Action
Tuna continues offshore when we find the right conditions and schools.
Recommended Boats This Week
- Super Pangas with toilet: balance of comfort + performance for La Fortuna runs.
- 28ft Habanero (private head): comfort and range for tuna + dorado.
- Larger boats available: more range, more stability, and experienced captains for full days.
Super Panga Options
Light, fast, and very effective for tuna lanes and dorado structure.
Weather & Sea Conditions (Captain Outlook)
- Typical February pattern: cooler mornings, comfortable afternoons, variable wind windows.
- Best plan: depart early for calmer water and active bait movement.
- If wind increases: we switch lanes, fish cleaner water lines, and adjust speed and bait selection.
Offshore success is about clean current, bait, and temperature breaks. We run the plan based on what we see that morning.
Daliken Conservation Note (Important to Us)
We want Los Cabos fishing to stay strong for the future. We encourage guests to keep only the fish they truly need and to practice catch-and-release when it makes sense.
We never force restrictions on anyone, but if you want to support conservation, our crew will gladly help with the best approach so we protect these fisheries for years to come.
Final Recommendation
If you want the best shot at tuna plus a chance at big dorado and striped marlin, book a trip that allows offshore time and start early. For maximum comfort, choose the 28ft Habanero or step up to the 33–38ft class. For fast, effective fishing, the 23–26ft Super Panga options are excellent.
