Fishing Report – Wahoo, Tuna and Marlin Just a Few Miles from the Marina
This week we have enjoyed very consistent fishing close to home. Just a short run from the marina, around the Chawuitas area in front of Palmilla, our captains are finding wahoo, yellowfin tuna from 20 to 80 lbs, striped marlin and mahi mahi.
It has been a fun combination of meat fish for the table and billfish for those who want the classic Cabo sportfishing experience. Action has been steady, with several opportunities each day for quality tuna and good striped marlin activity.
Tuna from 20 to 80 lbs Near Chawuitas
The yellowfin tuna bite has been one of the highlights. Most of the fish are in the 20–40 lb range, with some nicer models pushing up to around 80 lbs for anglers willing to be patient. We are finding them just a few miles off the marina, which makes it ideal for half-day and family trips.
Striped Marlin and Mahi Mahi in Front of Palmilla
For anglers looking for billfish, there is good striped marlin action in the same general area, with mahi mahi (dorado) mixed in. Working temperature breaks and bird life in front of Palmilla has produced shots at marlin as well as nice dorado for fresh ceviche and tacos.

Fishing Techniques Our Captains Are Using
Our captains are adjusting each day according to conditions, but these are the main techniques that have been producing:
Tuna and Wahoo
- Slow trolling live bait around schools of bait and bird activity.
- Chunking for yellowfin when fish are deeper or more finicky.
- High-speed trolling with lures to target wahoo along drop-offs.
Striped Marlin & Mahi Mahi
- Trolling lures and rigged ballyhoo along current and color changes.
- Pitching live bait when marlin show on the surface or come into the spread.
- Working floating debris and birds for dorado and mixed surface life.
Captain’s Recommendations
- Best results are often early morning departures with calm seas.
- Listen to your crew on drag settings and fighting technique to land larger tuna.
- Bring a light jacket, hat and sunscreen – conditions can change on the water.
Conditions & Weather Overview
Seas have generally been comfortable, making it a great time for families and first-time anglers. Light to moderate swells and manageable winds allow us to fish effectively just a few miles from the marina without long runs offshore.
As always, our captains monitor the latest marine forecast each morning and choose the safest and most productive area for your trip.
Keeping Your Catch & Conservation
At Daliken Sportfishing we are proud to help you take home fresh fish for your family, but we are also very committed to the future of our fishery. We encourage guests to:
- Keep only the fish you truly need for meals during your stay or to take home.
- Practice catch and release, especially with billfish like marlin.
- Release smaller fish and breeders when possible to help keep the population healthy.
We will never restrict you from keeping legal fish, but if you would like to collaborate in the conservation of our local species, releasing part of the catch is a great way to ensure that we all continue enjoying excellent fishing in Los Cabos for many years to come.
