La Fortuna Fishing Report – (San José del Cabo)
The La Fortuna side has been producing excellent fishing lately — strong mahi mahi action, plus chances at tuna, striped marlin, and wahoo. Below you’ll find current techniques, captain recommendations, comfort-focused boat options, and a conservation message that matters to us.
Today’s Conditions (Quick Update)
Captain tip: If the wind comes up, we adjust the route and trolling lanes to keep you comfortable while staying on fish.
Mahi Mahi (Dorado) – Very Strong Action
The star of the La Fortuna zone has been mahi mahi in the 10–20 lb class with consistent bites. This is perfect for fast action and excellent table fare.
- Trolling: feathers, small lures, or ballyhoo to locate schools.
- Once found: cast live bait (if available) or fast jigs to keep the school near.
- Stay ready: quick resets = more hookups.
Yellowfin Tuna – Quality Opportunities
We’re seeing tuna chances when conditions line up. Our crews watch for bird activity, foamers, and current edges. If tuna pop up, we move fast and get you in position.
- Run & gun: follow birds and surface activity.
- Bait plan: keep offerings ready and deploy fast.
- Pressure control: smooth drag and steady pace for solid landings.
Striped Marlin – Still in the Mix
Striped marlin shots are still available offshore. If you want a mixed-species day (mahi + tuna + marlin chance), we’ll tailor the plan based on your priorities.
- Trolling lanes: work temperature breaks and current lines.
- Teaser + pitch bait: keep a ready pitch when fish show.
- Stay consistent: one bite can change the day.
Wahoo – High-Speed Bites
Wahoo are always a thrill — fast runs and excellent meat. When we see the right signs, we’ll add high-speed passes and adjust leaders to improve your odds.
Recommended Boats (3–4 People)
For private trips with 3–4 anglers, we recommend super pangas for agility and bite-focused fishing — plus comfort options. We also offer a diesel-powered boat with a private restroom, and we can arrange larger boats with experienced captains for bigger groups.
