Daliken Fishing Charters San José del Cabo

Los Cabos fishing report June 30

As June closes out, the fishing out of Puerto Los Cabos Marina is firing on every front. Tank yellowfin tuna over 100 pounds are coming over the rail, striped marlin are working the offshore banks, and the roosterfish season along the shoreline remains excellent. On the right trips our crews are slicing fresh tuna sashimi on the boat for our guests, a Daliken tradition that turns a great day of fishing into a moment nobody forgets. This is summer in Los Cabos at its very best.

Neap tides, moderate range and lighter currents

Warm water and thick bait are holding the big tuna in range and keeping the marlin and roosters active. We are on a first quarter moon, which means neap tides with a more moderate range and gentler currents. That makes timing your day around the tide changes even more important, since the bite windows are tighter than on the big spring tides. South wind has come up on some mornings and pushed greener water in close, so the cleanest blue water offshore is where the tuna and marlin are concentrating.

On a neap tide the water moves less, so the best feeding happens in the short windows around the tide changes and the solunar major periods. We plan the run so first light and the morning tide change line up, which is when the big tuna and marlin feed hardest. Catch of the Week

Tank Tuna Over 100 Pounds

The cow tuna keep coming and they are the headline right now. Our anglers brought yellowfin tuna over 100 pounds to the boat, the kind of fish that tests every bit of the tackle, the angler and the crew. These tanks have been holding over the porpoise schools offshore, and slow trolling live caballito over the top of them has been the ticket. When one of these fish eats, hold on, because it is a battle measured in sweat and burning arms, and the payoff is one of the best trophies and best eating fish in the ocean.

The Daliken Tradition

Fresh Tuna Sashimi On the Boat

Here is something that sets a day with us apart. When the tuna come over the rail, our crews slice fresh sashimi right on the boat for our guests, ocean to plate within minutes. There is nothing like tasting yellowfin you caught yourself, still cold from the sea, while the boat rocks and the next bite is setting up. It has become a Daliken Sportfishing tradition our guests talk about long after the trip, and it is exactly the kind of detail that turns a charter into a memory. Big fish, big fights, and a taste of the catch before you even reach the dock.

The Bite of the Season

Roosterfish Season Is Still Excellent

The gallo bite that has defined this season is still going strong. Roosters are working the shoreline and giving anglers an incredible fight on light tackle, one of the best inshore experiences in all of Los Cabos.

The fish are spread along the shoreline stretches, best on live caballito and green jacks. We run to whichever stretch is fishing best that morning based on wind and water color. Every roosterfish is released to protect this iconic fishery for the seasons to come.

The Bite Right Now, Species by Species

Here is the honest breakdown of what our crews are seeing from the shoreline out to the offshore banks.

Yellowfin Tuna

The headline. Tank tuna over 100 lb holding over the porpoise schools offshore, taking live caballito slow trolled over the top. These are serious fish that require heavy gear and a strong angler. The reward is a trophy and the freshest sashimi you will ever taste, sliced right on the boat.

Striped Marlin

Striped marlin continue to work the offshore banks, with the best action on the cleaner blue water. Boats are raising fish on trolled lures and rigged ballyhoo, with a pitch bait ready for the ones that come up on the teasers. A classic Los Cabos billfish target that is on right now.

Roosterfish

Still excellent. Roosters on the shoreline crushing live caballito and green jacks, all released. The best light tackle fight in the region right now and perfect for anglers who want non-stop action without the long offshore run.

Dorado and Inshore

Dorado remain in the mix offshore on lures and ballyhoo, a great bonus fish on any tuna or marlin day. Inshore, jacks and other shoreline species keep the lighter rods busy between rooster shots. The variety right now is excellent.

Captain's Recommendation

Go For the Tank, and We Will Slice the Sashimi

With tuna over 100 pounds in range, my call this week is to chase a trophy. We leave the marina at first light, run to the clean blue water and the porpoise schools, and slow troll live caballito for the big yellowfin. Come ready to work, because a cow tuna is the hardest pull out here, but the payoff is unreal: a trophy fish and fresh sashimi sliced right on the boat. If you want to mix in some steady action, we can hit the roosterfish on the shoreline on the way in. On a neap tide we fish the tide changes closely, so timing matters and an early start is everything. Tell us what you are after and we will build the perfect day around it.

Tackle and Gear

What We Are Running

  • Tank tuna setup: heavy stand-up gear, 80 to 130 lb test, slow trolling live caballito over the porpoise schools offshore
  • Striped marlin setup: 80 to 130 lb rods, 200 to 400 lb leaders, trolled lures and rigged ballyhoo on the offshore banks, pitch bait ready
  • Roosterfish setup: spinning gear with 30 to 50 lb braid, live caballito and green jacks along the shoreline
  • Dorado setup: 30 to 50 lb test, 40 to 60 lb mono leaders, trolled lures and ballyhoo on the color changes
  • On board: sharp knives and a cutting board, because fresh tuna sashimi on the boat is part of the Daliken experience
  • Bait: live caballito, green jacks and sardines all available and key to the tuna and inshore bites

Tank tuna over 100 pounds, marlin on the banks, roosters on the beach, and sashimi on the boat. As June closes out, Los Cabos is giving anglers everything that makes this fishery world famous.
