San José del Cabo Fishing Report – Yellowfin Tuna & Roosterfish Action
This past week brought excellent tuna fishing in San José del Cabo, with yellowfin showing strong early in the week near Vinorama and San Luis. The most productive mornings were Tuesday and Wednesday, when several Super Pangas in San José del Cabo reported consistent hookups while targeting reef species with jigs.
One of our local fishing charters in San José del Cabo landed yellowfin tunas along with multiple red snapper while working the deeper edges off San Luis. The tuna were hitting hard on jigs and also responded well to squid strips fished slowly near the bottom. Most fish were between 25 and 35 pounds, but a few bruisers in the 80 lb class were also spotted, mainly early in the mornings.
As the week progressed, the yellowfin tuna bite in Los Cabos became more scattered, with boats averaging 1–2 per day by Friday. Live bait made a difference, especially caballito paired with a light fluorocarbon leader.
🌊 Inshore Fishing – Roosterfish Still Active
While tuna took the spotlight offshore, the shore fishing in San José del Cabo has been heating up again, especially for roosterfish near the beaches of La Laguna, El Zacatón, and the Marriott area. We’ve seen impressive roosterfish up to 50 pounds, mostly caught on live mullet or caballito worked close to the rocks or sandy drop-offs.
Several panga fishing charters targeting roosterfish in Cabo landed quality fish between 30–50 lbs during the early hours. Anglers casting from the beach also had chances near the Hotel Zone and Secrets area, making this an exciting time for those looking for trophy-size roosterfish from shore.
🐟 Bonus Species – Sierra, Snapper, and a Few Dorado
Inshore fishing charters in San José del Cabo also continue to find solid numbers of Sierra mackerel, especially near Palmilla Point and Cerro Colorado. These fish are hitting small trolled Rapalas and feather jigs, with some Sierra pushing the 8–10 lb range.
Snapper and amberjack are still active over the rocky structure, and while dorado fishing in Cabo has been slow, a few boats reported smaller females offshore near current lines. No strong marlin reports this week, but conditions remain favorable with warm blue water pushing in from the south.
