Mahi Mahi Bite – 100% After the Rain
After the recent rain, the mahi mahi bite in San José del Cabo has exploded. We are finding strong numbers of fish in the 15–20 lb range starting just 3 miles from the marina. It’s been fast, fun action with plenty of opportunities for photos and fresh fillets for dinner.
For visiting anglers and families, this is one of the best times to enjoy a relaxed charter: short runs, steady bites, and colorful dorado putting on a show right on the surface.
Tuna & Striped Marlin – Choose Your Style of Trip
Tuna: We continue to find good tuna action around Iman Bank. For visiting anglers and families, we recommend targeting school-size tuna along with dorado and striped marlin to keep the day active and fun without running too far or staying out too long.
For experienced anglers who want to put in the work, there are still yellowfin over 100 lb around – but you need extra time and patience to hunt a quality fish. These trips are more technical and usually require longer hours on the grounds to find the right school and get that one big bite.
Striped Marlin: Right now we estimate about a 40% possibility of connecting with a striped marlin on a given trip. For many visitors, mixing marlin with dorado and tuna is the perfect balance between action and an unforgettable offshore experience.
Mixed Bag on the 33ft Abamar
Our 33ft Abamar has been producing very solid mixed days with striped marlin, dorado and tuna. It’s a great option for groups that want extra comfort, shade and a stable ride while still staying close enough to the best current fishing zones.
Current Wahoo Status
The wahoo bite has dropped significantly compared to previous weeks. There are still occasional chances, but at the moment we focus the day more on mahi mahi, tuna and striped marlin, where the action and success rate are much higher.
Weather & Sea Conditions
Recent rains cleaned up the water and cooled the air, and the ocean has responded with very healthy dorado and tuna activity. Seas have been generally manageable, with typical morning breezes and calmer conditions early in the day, which is ideal for families and first-time anglers.
As always, we monitor the marine forecast every day and adjust our departure route according to wind, swell and current to keep the ride as comfortable and safe as possible.
Captain Recommendations & Techniques
- For visiting/tourist anglers: We recommend a mixed trip targeting striped marlin, school-size tuna and mahi mahi. This keeps the rods bending all day without needing extreme runs or heavy effort.
- For experienced anglers: Consider a longer day focused on big yellowfin tuna at Iman Bank. It requires more time, patience and work, but the reward can be a fish over 100 lb.
- Techniques in use: Trolling lures and rigged baits for dorado and marlin, live bait for tuna, plus jigs and heavier tackle for anglers who want to target larger tuna offshore.
- Boat options: Our 23ft Super Panga, 26ft pangas and the 33ft Abamar are all performing well under these conditions, each suited for different group sizes and comfort levels.

Keeping Fish & Conservation
At Daliken Sportfishing, we want you to enjoy fresh fish from your trip – that’s a big part of the experience. At the same time, it is very important for us to protect the future of our fishery.
We always encourage our guests to:
- Keep the fish you truly need for meals during your stay or to take home.
- Practice catch and release on additional fish or on certain species when it makes sense.
- Respect local regulations and limits so that we can continue to enjoy strong fishing for many years.
We do not strictly limit what you can keep, but if you would like to help us with conservation, our captains will be happy to guide you on which fish to keep and which are better to release so that our kids and future generations can enjoy the same quality of fishing in Los Cabos.
