San José del Cabo Fishing Report – Tuna Still Hot, Big Dorado, Wahoo & Striped Marlin Showing
Offshore on the La Fortuna side, the tuna bite keeps going strong. We’re also seeing quality mahi-mahi (dorado) around ~30 lb, occasional wahoo, and now striped marlin are starting to appear as the season turns on. Early mornings are producing best, especially as mackerel move in near Cabeza de Ballena.
Quick answer: Fish early. Target tuna & dorado offshore (La Fortuna), watch for wahoo, and expect more striped marlin as the season ramps up. Nearshore roosterfish are active close to the marina.
What’s Biting Right Now
- Tuna: The offshore bite continues on the La Fortuna side.
- Dorado (Mahi-Mahi): Good-sized fish around ~30 lb showing consistently.
- Wahoo: Still around—one or two opportunities on the right days.
- Striped Marlin: Starting to show up now (season is turning on).
- Mackerel: Moving in toward Cabeza de Ballena—about 18 miles from San José, and it’s also been found closer to shore early.
- Roosterfish: Great action close to the marina—about 2 miles off the beach, fish around ~10 lb.
Captain Recommendations
- Start early: Morning sessions are producing the most consistent action.
- For tuna: Troll / search, then switch to chunking or throwing live bait when the schools show.
- For dorado: Work floating structure, weed lines, and temperature breaks.
- For wahoo: Faster trolling passes, wire/leader ready, and keep an eye on bird activity.
- For striped marlin: Keep baits clean and be ready—more bites as the season builds.
- For roosterfish: Live bait near the beach line early = best chances.
Conservation Note (Important to Daliken)
At Daliken Sportfishing, we love strong fishing year after year. That’s why we encourage responsible harvest: keep only the fish you truly need, and consider catch & release when possible—especially when you already have enough for meals. We never “restrict” our guests, but if you enjoy helping conservation, it’s one of the best ways to protect the fishery so we all keep having amazing trips in the future.
