Main Species
Solid action all morning with chunking and live bait. Most fish were in the 30–60 lb class, with a few reaching 80 lb.
Once the school was located, the bite turned on quickly with steady action.
Wahoo – 20 to 30 lb
Wahoo were active on both banks, especially early morning. Best method: high-speed trolling with deep-diving lures and rigged baits.
Striped Marlin – Around 80 lb
Striped marlin showed up in the same areas we were targeting tuna. Best method: slow-trolling live bait around bait balls and surface life.
Dorado (Mahi Mahi)
Dorado action was slower today, but we still managed some quality fish around floating debris.
Captain’s Recommendations & Techniques
Our captains combined trolling, live bait, and bank-reading skills to keep rods bending throughout the trip.
- Yellowfin Tuna: Chunk bait + live bait on high spots; maintain a steady chum line.
- Wahoo: High-speed trolling along bank edges; sunrise is the prime window.
- Striped Marlin: Slow-troll live bait near birds, bait balls, and surface activity.
- Dorado: Target floating debris and current lines; keep one bait in the water to draw the school.
Recommended trip length: 6–8 hours to comfortably work both Iman and Gordo Bank.
