Today's Conditions
The water is warm and blue offshore, and the billfish are stacked on the productive banks. We are just past the new moon on a building waxing crescent, with the tides easing down from this week's spring range toward the neap that arrives midweek. That means good current movement still, which the marlin use to feed. South wind has come up on some mornings, but the early window has been excellent, and running to the Gordo and Iman first thing has put boats right on the blue marlin.

Coming off the spring tides, the water is still moving well, which keeps the bait and the billfish active on the banks. Blue Marlin

Striped Marlin and Sailfish
Both in the mix alongside the blues. Striped marlin are still working the banks with good numbers, and sailfish add their spectacular acrobatic fights to the billfish bite. Same program: trolling lures and ballyhoo, live bait ready. A true multi-billfish week offshore.
Dorado
The dorado bite is running about 50 percent right now, more of a bonus fish than a target. They are coming while trolling for marlin on lures and ballyhoo. Any dorado that eats is a welcome addition to the box and some of the best eating in the ocean, but the billfish are the main event this week.
Roosterfish and Inshore
Still strong. Roosters in the 15 to 40 lb class working the shoreline, giving anglers a great light tackle fight. Live caballito and green jacks are the ticket, with jacks mixed in. All roosterfish released. The best inshore action in the region if you want to skip the offshore run.

Run the Gordo and Iman for the Blues
With blue marlin this active at the Gordo and Iman, my call is clear: get out early and run the banks. We leave the marina at first light, work the clean blue water over the Gordo and Iman with lures and rigged ballyhoo, and keep a pitch rod with live bait ready for any blue that comes up on the teasers. Fish in the 180 to 300 lb class are exactly what you want, big enough for the fight of a lifetime and still eating well.
