Daliken Fishing Charters San José del Cabo

Los Cabos Fishing Report June 22 2026

Monday delivered a day to remember out of Puerto Los Cabos Marina. The headline was a tank yellowfin tuna of around 250 pounds brought to the boat, the kind of trophy fish that defines a season. On top of that, the inshore roosterfish bite continues to be excellent with big gallos along the shoreline, and striped marlin and quality dorado are working the offshore banks. Big game and light tackle action all in the same window. This is summer fishing in Los Cabos at its best.

Summer has fully arrived in Los Cabos. The water is warm on the Sea of Cortez side and the bait is stacked, which is keeping the big tuna in range and the inshore fishing red hot. South wind has come up on some mornings and pushed greener water in close, so an early start and reading the water make the difference. Offshore, the cleaner blue water on the banks is where the marlin and bigger dorado are holding.

Catch of the Day

A 250 Pound Tank Yellowfin Tuna

The fish everyone dreams about. Our anglers went the distance with a cow yellowfin tuna of roughly 250 pounds, a true tank that tested every bit of the tackle, the angler and the crew. Landing a fish this size is a battle measured in sweat and burning arms, and it is exactly the kind of trophy that puts Los Cabos on the map as a world class big game destination. These cow tuna are the prize of the summer season, and when the conditions line up like this, a fish of a lifetime is on the table. Hooking one is part luck and part being on the right boat at the right time, and Monday it all came together.

The Bite of the Season

Roosterfish Are On Fire Right Now

This is prime roosterfish season in San José del Cabo, and the bite has been outstanding. We are seeing bigger gallos almost every day, many in the 40 to 50 pound class, patrolling the shorelines and crushing live bait. Pound for pound, a big rooster is one of the hardest fighting fish you can hook on light tackle, and right now is the time to do it. The best results have come on live caballito and green jacks, with smaller fish taking live sardines closer in. These fish are released to protect the fishery, but the fight and the photos last a lifetime. If a screaming reel and a head-shaking gallo on the surface sound like your kind of morning, do not wait on this one.

The Bite Right Now, Species by Species

Here is the honest breakdown of what our crews and the rest of the fleet are seeing from the shoreline out to the offshore banks.

Yellowfin Tuna

The big story. Beyond the 250 pound tank, porpoise schools have been showing a few miles off San Luis, and boats making the run on live caballito have had shots at quality fish. The cow tuna are the trophy of the season right now. The catch is the sharks, which have been getting to fish during longer fights, so landing the big ones takes a strong angler and a bit of luck.

Roosterfish and Inshore

The most consistent bite. Big roosters in the 40 to 50 lb class on live caballito and green jacks along the shoreline, with smaller ones on sardines. The same inshore program is also producing big dogtooth snapper and medium amberjack near the structure. Outstanding light tackle action close to the marina.

Marlin Offshore

Striped marlin action continues on the offshore banks, with the 1150 Bank and the surrounding area producing the most consistent shots. Boats targeting them are getting releases, with fish coming on lures and rigged ballyhoo. Plenty of billfish around for anyone wanting to make the offshore run.

Dorado

Quality dorado in the 30 to 40 lb range are coming while boats troll for marlin on the banks, hitting lures and ballyhoo. Closer to shore we are seeing smaller females, and since dorado grow incredibly fast, we release the small ones to keep the fishery healthy. A great bonus fish on any offshore day.

On the Water Today

Sharks are active offshore. Big schools of sharks have been around from Vinorama to Iman where the bait is stacked, and they have been taking tuna and dorado boatside during longer fights. Our crews manage it by fighting fish fast and changing zones when the sharks move in. It is part of summer fishing here, and the strong inshore rooster bite is one good reason the beach has been so appealing this week.

Captain's Recommendation

Trophy Tuna Offshore, Big Gallos on the Beach

Right now you have the best of both worlds. If you are after a trophy, the cow tuna are in range and a fish like Monday's 250 pounder is the dream of a lifetime, so come ready to work for it on heavier gear over the porpoise schools. If you want steady action and an incredible fight without the long battle, the inshore roosterfish bite is as good as it gets, with 40 to 50 pound gallos on light tackle close to the beach. Leave the marina at 6:10 am, tell us what you are after, and we will build the day around it. Either way, summer in Los Cabos is delivering.
